Rare vintage Irish-made American sports car goes on display in Dublin - PHOTO

The Shamrock car
At next month’s RIAC National Classic Car Show at the RDS in Dublin, a running 17-foot Shamrock car will be on display. Only a handful of the now vintage car were ever made.

Event manager Bob Montgomery said, "Originally it was planned to produce about 10,000 cars a year from their Irish manufacturing plant. Unfortunately, the project never got that far.”

The Shamrock car was originally designed for the American market by visiting American industrialist William Curtis who wanted to start a car manufacturing business in Ireland.

The Irish-made cars were only manufactured for a short time at a factory in Castleblaney in Co Monaghan. Before the project was shut down in the early 1960s for financial difficulties, the car model was lauded for its beauty, styling and elegance.

The RIAC National Classic Car Show will be hosted in Dublin from February 9-10.

RNLI lifeboats rescued 1,041 people in 2012, increase from 2011

The RNLI at work
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) had another successful year involving the rescues of 1,041 people around Ireland in 2012. This is an increase in the amount of people rescued during 2011, despite a decrease in the actual number of callouts.

RTE News reports that the RNLI provides search and rescue service from the coast to 100 nautical miles off shore, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 95 percent of its crew members are volunteers.

In 2012, the busiest spot in Ireland for the RNLI was DĂșn Laoghaire, which launched 46 times and rescued 71 people.

Crosshaven, Baltimore and Howth lifeboats all launched at least 40 times during 2012.

Just over half of the lifeboat launches in 2012 were to assist power, sail and pleasure craft, while 14 percent were to commercial fishing boats and other commercial vessels.

In 2012, lifeboats launched a total of 73 times to aid stranded or grounded vessels, and also dealt with 122 callouts to people who were ashore but needed help.

Incidents included people who had fallen ill or injured on islands, cliffs or shorelines, or medical evacuations, which is a regular occurrence for the lifeboats at Arranmore Island in Co Donegal and the Aran Islands in Co Galway.

Funny or Die's Manti Te'o sketch
Funny or Die have decided to weigh in on the Manti Te’o fiasco, in their own hilarious way and have been presenting videos of the Notre Dame linebacker. Beginning with an eHarmony ad and now a parody of the catfish trailer.

The Notre Dame linebacker hit the news earlier this week when it was revealed that his late girlfriend never existed, with Te’o claiming he was a victim of an elaborate hoax.

Now, Funny or Die has uploaded a video with Te'o (Eugene Cordero) gushing about his relationship with Lennay Kekua, reports Digital Spy.

“I hate fake people. They’re just so…it’s like they’re not there when you’re talking to them. But it’s different with Lennay,” says Eugene Cordero portraying Te’o, as the camera cuts to a two shot of him and an empty seat on the couch, according to EW.com.

Comedian posing as Irish dancer joins breakdancers on New York subway - VIDEO

Comedian Tyler Fischer doing an "Irish jig" on an NYC subway

Running into break dancers on a New York City subway is nothing for most native New Yorkers to bat an eye at. However, for the break dancers to be upstaged by a faux Irish dancer?
Comedian Tyler Fischer stole the spotlight from some break dancers on a subway recently when the music switched up to an Irish reel and Fleischer began to prance around the subway car.

“Look at him go! He’s a little leprechaun!” cheered on the break dancers who were presumably in on the stunt.

In our opinion the best part of this video isn’t Fischer’s fly Irish dance skills but rather how completely unphased the New Yorkers on the subway are about what’s taking place. Only in New York!

Check out the video below.
