Irish photographer wins prize for snap of Queen Elizabeth looking meek - PHOTO

Queen Elizabeth (Photo: Chris Bellew)
Chris Bellew won the Irish Professional Photographers Association Press and PR Photographer of the Year accolade for his snap of Queen Elizabeth looking uncharacteristically meek, peeking from behind a door during her trip to Ireland.

The photograph was taken just before the wreath-laying ceremony in the Garden of Remembrance, in Dublin, in May. He managed to get a photo of the Queen as she was sneaking around the door and looked directly at him.

Bellew has been working for Fennell Photography, in Dublin, for ten years, according to the Irish Independent.

Limerick landscape photographer Peter O'Donnell won the coveted IPPA award for his study of an Irish landscape in monochrome.

Magical natural event "Brocken Spectre" captured at the Cliffs of Moher - PHOTO

Sean Tomkins / Irishlandscapes.ie CLICK TO ENLARGE
The image above was snapped by one of our readers, Sean Tomkins, at the Cliffs of Moher, in County Clare. As well as catching the natural beauty of the cliffs, the photograph shows a rare natural optical even called a "Brocken Spectre".

This is defined as "a magnified shadow of an observer, typically surrounded by rainbow-like bands, thrown on to a bank of cloud in high mountain areas when the sun is low" by the Oxford dictionary.

Enjoy.

Boston Globe story misnames Irish Prime Minister as ‘Edna’ Kenny -- Not for the first time Irish leader Enda Kenny is called a female name in error

Headline appears on the Boston Globe website on Friday

The Boston Globe has has changed the sex of  Irish Prime Minister on their website by incorrectly naming him "Edna Kelly" in a headline.

Reporting on the Taoiseach’s trip to Boston, the Globe reported “Irish PM Edna Kenny visits the JFK Library”.

The Irish Prime minister was in the US for the second time in less than a week, as part of a three-day investment drive.

This is not the first time that an US publication has made an online error regarding the gender of the Irish Prime Minister.

After last March’s General Election the New York Times mistakenly reported that Enda Kenny was a female.

"Ms Kenny's centre-right Fine Gael party will now govern in a coalition with the centre-left Labour Party," read the report, published on March 9, 2010.

The Boston Globe article published online today has since been changed.

Alec Baldwin tweets about why he named his daughter Ireland

Ouch! Mr Donaghy that smarts!

Alec Baldwin was asked on Twitter, earlier this week, why he had named his daughter Ireland. According to Joe.ie (a website based in Ireland) his response didn't go down that well back home.

The "30 Rock" star had gone incommunicado on Twitter following a show down with an American Airlines flight attendant in December but it seems he's that he's back, and on form.

Although some Irish might find it a little insulting it's still a great joke and it is a joke. Don't worry young Ireland Baldwin was born in 1995 at the rise of the Celtic Tiger.

Dubliner makes romantic gesture in time of St. Valentine’s Day - PHOTO

Sign of love outside Des Kelly's, Dublin
This is either the most romantic thing we've seen in a long time or a cunning marketing ploy for Valentine's Day, hatched by a warehouse carpet store, as the team at Journal.ie thinks. What do you reckon?

Is this just like one of those sweet "Missed Connections" notes you find on Craigslist or is this just shameless attention seeking? We'd like to think it's cupid.

Irish rapper Rob Kelly gets okay from Tinchy Stryder and Ruff Sqwad, Des Bishop, and the Rubberbandits - VIDEO

Rob Kelly , the Irish rapper from Wexford, has been getting shout outs on BBC and Twitter this week from fans who think he’s the next big thing in Irish music.

BBC DJ Charlie Sloth filling in for Tim Westwood, on X1tra, asked, “Anyone know about Rob Kelly?”

A stunned silence fills the room. Sloth adds “This guy’s from Ireland. He’s the biggest Irish rapper”

However, as soon as the song was over, Tinchy Stryder and Ruff Sqwad had nothing but good things to say.

“I like that I like that. I like that he’s rapping about where he’s from. It’s mad different.”

Another member of the group said “He’s rapping to where he’s from”

Irish American Dublin-based comedian Des Bishop also re-tweeted The Rubberbandit’s message which said, “Fair play to @RobHKelly. Irish Rap is getting respect from some legends”
Could Rob Kelly be the next big thing? What do you think of the song?

Here’s the tune:

The New York Giants win Super Bowl against New England Patriots again, kind of – VIDEO

Giants win
This EA Sports Madden NFL Super Bowl simulation on Forbes gave us quite the fright, at first glance. This Xbox 360 simulation shows the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots 27-24 in Super Bowl XLVI.

In the tricky simulation we see Giants’ Quarterback Eli Manning named the MVP, completing 25 of 39 passes with two touchdowns and an interception. New England Patriots’ Tom Brady also had a big day, throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Manning and Giants win!

Is this a reflection of things to come? Who will be the big winner on Sunday, 5th February at the Super Bowl?

Here’s the video:
